The article presents case study of a 30-year-old woman who has been stabbed in the posterior left chest with a knife whose blade had broken off and lodged in her left posterior chest in fifth interspace. Topics discussed include need for using the standard advanced trauma life support (ATLS) approach for management of retained weapons (RWs); taking haemodynamic status of the patient into consideration; and advantage associated thoracoscopic approach.
