The article discusses the benefits of neck strengthening in reducing the risk of concussion in youth and scholastic athletes. Topics discussed include characteristics of risk factors for concussion such as head-neck segment mass, muscle activity and stiffness; suggestion for incorporating low-cost neck resistance training into the regular training; and importance of appropriate instruction and supervision of cervical musculature resistance training programs.
