The article presents a clinical study which assessed gustatory function after middle ear surgery. Using a visual analog scale, 47 patients performed self-assessment of their taste function before and 4 days after surgery. Taste function was found to be decreased after surgery depending on the amount of manipulation of the chorda tympani nerve.
