This article compares two different approaches for the treatment of gallstones, specifically choledocholithiasis (CDL). The first approach is a two-step procedure involving an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to extract the CDL and a cholecystectomy (CCE) to prevent recurrence. The second approach is a single-step laparo-endoscopic rendez-vous procedure, where the ERCP is performed during the CCE using an antegrade wire cannulation. The study found that the single-step procedure had a higher success rate, reduced the risk of post-ERCP pancreatitis, and resulted in a shorter hospital stay. Overall, the single-step procedure was deemed safe and feasible for patients with combined cholecysto-choledocholithiasis. [Extracted from the article]
