The author explores how the development of physician-teacher partnerships can help combat the effects of toxic stress. Topics discussed include chain of events that showed the author how a teacher can limit the long-term effects of toxic stress, factors that lead to the development of child toxic stress which includes adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and early exposure to poverty, and benefits of physician-school collaboration.
