The article presents the discussion on HIV-1 leveraging the dimerization interfaces in Pol regulating assembly and maturation of polyprotein precursors. Topics include key proteins of retroviruses and other RNA viruses translated and subsequently processed from polyprotein precursors by the viral protease (PR); and developing a system for producing stable HIV-1 Pol and determining the cryo–electron microscopy structure.
