The article describes the case of an old man who experienced aortic perforation as a sequela to the implantation of a cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator. He experienced cardiac tamponade and needed urgent open-chest surgery six hours after the procedure. Also discussed are the heart failure that complicated the patient's postoperative course and aortic perforation by a pacemaker lead as a very rare and life-threatening event.
