The article discusses ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) infections in the intensive care unit (ICU). Topics discussed include use of molecular diagnostic methods for detecting presence of multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens, use of adjunctive therapy with nebulized antibiotics in VAP and DALI study demonstrating the frequent ineffective dosing of antibiotics for critically ill intensive care unit (ICU) patients.
