The article focuses on the challenges faced by the East and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ESARCIBA), particularly the National Archives of Malawi (NAM). It notes that inadequate mechanisms for controlling the flow of records, neglect of adequate security measures, and lack of a uniform file classification scheme are some of the reasons why record management systems in Malawi public service are poor. Furthermore, a policy on records management is also lacking in Malawi in which the National Archives Act needs total revision to address the issues of electronic records. It also states that NAM had submitted project proposals to promote good record keeping to some donor cooperating partners working in the country.
