The article comments on a study which analyzed antibiotic utilization and rates of bacterial co-infection for patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at 38 hospitals in Michigan. Also revealed in the study is the discordance between rates of antibiotic use and bacterial co-infection with COVID-19. The phases of inpatient management of COVID-19 disease are initial management or first 48 hours of hospitalization, 48-96 hours into hospitalization and beyond 96 hours from admission.
