The authors reflect on endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) and its role in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Topics discussed include the study by Hopper and colleagues which suggests that EndMT occurs in the setting of PAH/pulmonary hypertension, the common regulatory pathways of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and EndMT, and the connection of PAH progression to the changes in shear stress on the vascular wall.
