Red mud granule filter material (RMGFM) was prepared, then was used as a support for preparation of Fe(II)-akaganeite (β-FeOOH) modified red mud granule filter material (Fe2+-β-FeOOH/RMGFM). The filter material was characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, BET, and Zeta potential, and the bromate removal effect of β-FeOOH/RMGFM and Fe2+-β-FeOOH/RMGFM was investigated. The results showed that the Fe2+-β-FeOOH/RMGFM exhibited uniform mesopores, and the surface was positively charged. The introduction of Fe(II) and Fe(III) improved the reductive and adsorbent capacity of RMGFM. The results showed that Fe2+-β-FeOOH/RMGFM absorbent has excellent capacity for absorbing bromate. This study shows that Fe2+-β-FeOOH/RMGFM is a promising filter material for removal of bromate from water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
