Of 1319 patients deemed eligible, 653 COPD patients seen by their clinician for an acute exacerbation of COPD were enrolled and randomized to CRP-guided care or usual care. Why this is important Twelve million Americans have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).[1] COPD was the third leading cause of death in the USA in 2014.[2] Antibiotics have been standard therapy for patients presenting with COPD exacerbation. The use of CRP testing in patients with COPD exacerbations decreased antibiotic use and did not impact patient-reported quality of life. [Extracted from the article]
