The author discusses a study by Gayle Gravlin and Nancy Phoenix Bittner which was conducted to measure registered nurses' (RNs') and nursing assistants' (NAs') reports of frequency and reasons for missed nursing care while examining the factors related to successful RN-NA delegation. Bittner and Gravlin's study used a quantitative descriptive design using MISSCARE Survey, which was developed by Kalisch and Williams, and a delegation questionnaire. A study pertaining to the errors of omission in patient safety by Kalisch and colleagues is cited and Berkow and colleagues' work on RN-NA delegation proficiency of newly licensed nurses, is highlighted.
