In other cases, you may opt to not shim to correct a miter that's open at the top or bottom but use the detent release lever that prevents the saw table from latching at a specific preset angle. And even a properly adjusted saw equipped with a less-than-perfect blade will do the job and yield an acceptable paint-grade miter on wood trim.
