The purpose of this study is to identify common features and differences in the function and role of the postposition of Korean language such as ‘ggaji’, ‘jocha’, ‘majeo’, ‘buteo’, bagge’, ‘cheoreom’, ‘mankeum’, ‘gachi’ , ‘boda’ and ‘Gaesa’ in Chinese language in the structure of sentences in the two languages. In previous studies, most of the scholars contrasted adverbial case markers in Korean language with ‘Gaesa’ in Chinese language. On the other hand, this study selected auxiliary markers with practical meaning as postpositions and compared them with Gaesa in Chinese. Through the previous studies, it was confirmed that Korean postpositions and Chinese Gaesas have five grammatical similarities and differences in sentence syntactical structure. Firstly, postpositions and Gaesas cannot be used alone as a sentence component. Secondly, although a postposition and a Gaesa cannot be used together with other postposition or Gaesa in principle, there are very few cases that a postposition can be used with another postposition. ex: ‘ggajiboda’ Thirdly, postposition realizes various functions and roles depending on with which element it is combined in the sentence. However, Gaesa, unlike postposition, emphasizes the focus of the topic instead of acting as a case. Fourthly, postposition can be combined with conjugated verbs. On the other hand, a considerable number of Gaesas seem to have Gyeomryu with verbs and act as verbs. In principle, Gaesa cannot be combined with a verb, but some Gaesas can be combined with a verb. ex: 我这里的情况, 他连问都没有问, 还谈什么关心吗?(He did not ask the situation here then what can I tell him more about it?) Fifthly, postposition phrases appear to be distributed in front of the predicate, but the place of the subject or object in the sentence may change. Corresponding Chinese Gaesa is usually placed in front of a predicate, but it can also be located in the beginning or at the end of the sentence. ex: 他吃力的站起来, 在他醒来之后. (He strenuously stood up after he woke up) The grammatical similarities and differences between Korean postpositions and Chinese Gaesas were identified as such. Based on this, in Chapter 3 we will examine the morphological combination of postposition. Postposition is usually combined directly with subject, object and adverb and then combined with a case marker and auxiliary marker. The corresponding Chinese Gaesa appears in two forms. ① Gaesa (preposition), ② Gaesa Phrase (preposition +postposition). Finally, in chapter 4, roles and functions of postpositions and Gaesas in the sentence are identified through the possibility of omission of postpositions and Gaesa in the sentence. In conclusion, we can see that postposition and Gaesa have been developed from verbs and nouns through the process of grammaticalization, and modern Korean postposition generally expresses the meaning and the function of the case only in the sentence and it does not have verb function at all. However, Gaesa in Chinese not only expresses the function of emphasis of the topic and adding meaning in the sentence, but also shows the characteristics of verbs. In this sense, it can be said that the role burden of Gaesa is in the sentence is larger than that of postposition.
