Based on the research of a Saenghwang(reed instrument) in Korea and China, it shows the history, structure and ways of manufacture, the process of change in china, condition of instruction, esthetic point of view, from analysis between Korea and China and research among Korea, China and Japan for researching Korean music. The results are represented below. First, In the history, a Saenghwang in china has influenced many countries such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, a few countries in Southeast Asia and Europe. After introduction of it, Korea has used it in the field of court music for vocal music, solo music, duet with danso and the ensemble of wind and string instruments. These days, a lot of music has been composed and played for the Saenghwang. Second, China has inherited methods to manufacture it. But Korea has depended heavily on imports from China. For the development and vitalization of it in Korea, the methods to manufacture the instruments such as Saengmyo, Saengdu and Saenggak were introduced in Korea. Accordingly, the instruments suit for Korean tune should be manufactur ed directly. Third, It has satisfied the demanding and development for folk music in China and repeated improvements. National instrument in China has encountered a few problems regarding the development of instrument. It has to adjust to fast-changing times, keeping its originality with the scientific method in Western. These are critical problems that instrument experts and performers have to deal with. Fourth, There are around 40 institutions for the major of a Saeng hwang in China. They are run not only on a large scale but also by the public figures, establishing constructive basics for development and scientific education for diversifying its artistic aspects. Scientific education for diversifying its artistic aspects has the brilliant objectivity such as development of human resource, strengthening its shape with standard, diversity and unity. They has had students acquire various music, providing a lot of data such as text book for score, video, music, literature theory, music exhibition, contest and discussion for research. Fifth, The spirits of a Saenghwang are harmony, virtue and purity. Sixth, According to the comparison between Korea and China, both are identical in the terms of ways to play because Korea has been influenced by China. A lot of school has been formed by performers throughout centuries. So there has been improvement in the technic. But there was a limit in the process in Korea because of various political situations. Both countries only have score in the case of old music and don’t play that music.Both countries have played that music only with various forms in the traditional songs for the instrument. In China, a lot of composers have made many solo songs. But in Korea, there have been a few songs since “wind direction” composed by Lee Jun Ho in 1997. Seventh, It has examined chord and tone with a Saenghwang made up 17 pipes in China and Korea for the comparative research. 17 Saenghwang consists of tetrachord and the perfect fifth in China. In a fundamental note, it is the perfect fifth until the second sound and tetrachord until the third sound. These are identical with Korean chord fundamentally.
