본 연구에서는 이러한 단점을 보완하여 토크에 대한 민감도가 높으면서 강성도 높일 수 있는 새로운 토크 센서 SSTS(high sensitivity and high stiffness torque sensor)를 제안하였다.
Industrial robot manipulators have been widely used in the various industries such as the automotive, electronics and shipbuilding industries, doing welding, assembly and etc. to improve the productivity. Also, the robots undertake tasks which are very dangerous and difficult for people.Force/torque sensors have been increasingly adopted in the robotic manipulators. The force/torque sensor in the manipulator can measure the force that the manipulator reacts to work piece or environment. Using the force/torque sensor, the manipulator can control the robot's position and the reaction force simultaneously. Additionally, the measurement for force/torque in the manipulators can help the precise motion control overcoming the dynamical non-linearity and uncertain parameters. Furthermore, the force/torque sensor can prevent the accidents or reduce damage by controlling the manipulator force. It can lead to the improved intelligence of robot manipulators. The force/torque sensor can be attached at the distal of a manipulator, or at the joints of a manipulator. Generally, the sensor attached to the ends of the robot manipulator is a 6 DOF (degree of freedom) force/torque sensor. It can directly and precisely measure the reaction force/torque with the work piece or environment where the manipulator contacts. However, this approach can only measure the force/torque at the distal of manipulator. The distal force/torque sensor cannot measure conflicts or external forces acting on the manipulator body. Therefore, if humans and robots are working in the same space, the force/torque sensor attached at the distal of manipulator cannot be used to improve safety of working environments. In this study, the force/torque sensor used for joints of robot manipulator is discussed. So far, there are many researches about force/torque sensor for the joints of robot manipulator. However, in these researches, force/torque sensor cannot have stiffness and sensitivity at the same time. In order to increase the sensitivity of the sensor, the stiffness should be decreased. With low stiffness force/torque sensor, the joint stiffness also decreased. It deteriorates dynamic characteristics of manipulator. On the other hand, if the torque sensor is rigid, the sensitivity will be decreased. Force/torque sensor with low sensitivity is difficult to measure small torque accurately. In this study, in order to compensate the drawback of force/torque sensor, we proposed a new concept of torque sensor SSTS (high sensitivity and high stiffness torque sensor). The main idea of proposed structure comes from a 4 bar linkage in which the angular displacement of link is enlarged. The sensitivity of the torque sensor with 4 bar link structure was improved. Because the part related with sensitivity is separated from the part related with stiffness, the stiffness can be improved without decreased sensitivity.By the FEA (finite element analysis) using ANSYS, the proposed mechanism is analyzed. In FEA, the proposed mechanism shows improved sensitivity and stiffness. To maximize the performance of sensor, the proposed mechanism has been optimized. To consider the sensitivity and stiffness of the torque sensor simultaneously, the cost function for optimization is defined by product of sensitivity and stiffness. With proposed mechanism, the force/torque sensor of other researches can also be improved in the sensitivity and stiffness. Proposed torque sensors are verified by various simulations and experiments. The SSTS with the proposed structure is improved about 3 times based on the objective function, and the better performance can be obtained. Thus, it is possible to make torque sensors by 3 times more sensitive sensor with similar stiffness or 3 times stiffer sensor with similar sensitivity. Moreover, the proposed structure is just a single part with a thin substance and has an advantage of low cost. Thus, it can be applied in various fields.
