In this paper, we try to propose a novel optimal route for the GPSR routing protocol. Certainly, our new route mechanism is also based on the geographical position. Our proposal tries to use the position information of the destination vehicle, through computing each of neighbors' distance to the destination and the triangle area which is made up by the neighbors, the source and destination vehicle. To consider the dense and sparse environment in the real traffic, we give out a formula to integrate these factors. According to our mechanism, and base on the geographical position of the destination vehicle, each of the preview hops can select the next forwarding hop that is result in forming an optimal route to the destination hop by hop. And in order to evaluating our proposal , we have analyzed the characters of the VANET, and give out the mathematical model to evaluate the time latency and packet delivery ratio between our proposal and the GPSR. In order to prove our mathematical model feasible, we use the MATLAB tool to analyze the character of the model. Through analyzing the curve expression of our mathematical model, we confirm that our mathematical model truly apply with the real behavior of the vehicles. But all of these are on the basis of the theoretical conferring. We need to do the simulation for our proposal. So we adopt the ns network simulation tool to evaluate the performance of our proposal with the parameter time latency and the packet delivery ratio. Finally, according to data analysis, we conclude that our proposal has a better performance in the time latency comparing with the GPSR routing protocol. But in the packet delivery ratio, our proposal doesn't give us a better performance than the GPSR. In this paper, we also evaluate the performance of the MANET routing protocols in VANET. According to the simulation result, we find that the MANNET routing protocols expressed unstable in both of time delay and packet delivery ratio. Especially in the aspect of delay, the MANET routing protocol has expressed kinds of undulation in different density conditions. In the later part of this paper, I will describe them in detail.
