In this paper, a simplified beamforming assisted spatial modulation multiple input multiple output (SM-MIMO) scheme with blind linear detection is developed, termed as SBF-BLD. With the proposed SBF-BLD, the transmitter in SM-MIMO system performs beamforming with very simplified maximum ratio transmission (MRT) criterion and the receiver adopts blind linear selective combing detector. Specifically, with the proposed scheme, the receiver could do very simple linear detection without the channel information, which can simplify the detector significantly and achieve very closed performance to maximum likelihood detection (MLD), especially under massive MIMO configuration. We present the analytical performance of SBF-BLD scheme both in small-scale and large-scale MIMO systems in this paper. Besides the advantage of complexity, simulation results show the significant performance gain of the proposed SBF-BLD than conventional SM and it also outperforms some conventional CSI assisted counterparts in SM-MIMO systems.
