In this paper, a physical layer encryption scheme is proposed in coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system based on reservoir DNA and index scrambling using key sequences generated by higher-dimensional hyper-chaos. Simulations of the proposed scheme are conducted in a 16QAM CO-OFDM system via 50 km standard single mode fiber transmission at the symbol rate of 40 Gsps. Results and analyses show that the scheme can enhance the security of system with a key space of $\sim 10^{225}$, which guarantees encryption performance within a negligible penalty.
