The article focuses on an ongoing research conducted by researchers at Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, Missouri on using sugar as a battery fuel-cell option. Researchers have discovered that on a single charge, sweet batteries run almost three to four times longer than their lithium ion counterparts. Flat sodas, sweetened drink mixes and tree sap are various other products which were used by Shelley Minteer, University chemistry professor. However, ordinary table sugar dissolved in water gave the best result. According to Minteer and her colleagues, sugar-batteries can reach the market within next five years, if the test continues to provide positive results.
