This study focused on individual differences in graduates' experiences prior to organization entry. We examined whether a proactive coping style, which is a future-oriented coping (FOC) style that promotes favorable outcomes, predicted positive appraisal of organization entry and better mental health at pre-entry. We also investigated whether a proactive coping style is associated with such positive pre-entry experiences indirectly through FOC competence. The results of structural equation modeling and the tests of the indirect effects using bootstrapping partially supported the direct and indirect relations assumed in this research: that is, a proactive coping style and FOC competence were significant predictors of a positive pre-entry experience among graduates. This finding contributes to the field of proactive coping and organizational psychology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
