3D beam steering antennas are a current topic for improvement of wireless applications in many fields, such as radar, multi-user or low-power wireless networks. In Wireless Sensor Networks, piloting an antenna in elevation shows interest for deployments when energy-constrained nodes lie out of plane. We propose an upgrade of a cylindrical Switched Beam Antenna to add steering in elevation. The simulation of the stacking of the former structure with proper Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) cell configuration shows a beam gain of 11.6 dBi at elevation 0° and the possibility of a discrete steering in elevation of 22° and – 22° with a beam gain of 9.5 dBi.
