The object of this paper is to describe preliminary evaluation of new wearable microwave sensor module to detect wrist location. Two significant contributions are reported. Firstly, a frequency multiplexed 1-dimensional sensor array was developed using microstrip-line-excited complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs). With the cylindrical structures, it is possible to spatially resolve the relative changes of the wrist in belt location. Secondly, compared with previous designs, where the location changes both the resonant frequency and depth of the transmission notch, the proposed method just requires the transmission coefficient magnitude (dB) response at the same frequency. The method does not need to chase the resonance frequency shift, but use the fixed frequency received power. Experimental results showed that one particular sensor is capable of detecting a relative distance change as 1.16 (dB/mm), rage form 0 to 20mm, can achieve 2-D spatial resolution from suitable array design.
