This paper introduces a new wideband dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) based on the frequency-dependent material whose relative permittivity is inversely proportional to the frequency square. Using this special material, a wideband cylindrical DRA operating at the fundamental HE 11δ mode is developed. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna can be more than 10 times larger than the traditional case with a constant permittivity. The proposed antenna shows good merit of wide bandwidth which is promising for future wideband wireless communication systems.
