Artificial Intelligence (AI) is considered groundbreaking in many fields, as it can reproduce or even exceed the cognitive performance of humans. Increasingly, AI is also finding its way into industrial production. However, use cases so far have shown that a fully automated use of AI is not sufficient for decision making. Instead, the more promising approach is Augmented Intelligence. It is based on the assumption that human and machine intelligence complement each other positively. In this way, decisions and actions are made more efficiently and reliably. In this paper, the concept behind Augmented Intelligence is introduced and promising use cases in industrial production are exemplified. Likewise, necessary organizational and operational preconditions are discussed and recommendations for a successful implementation of Augmented Intelligence use cases are given.
