High-power ultrafast laser sources are attractive for a range of applications including micromachining, supercontinuum generation and spectroscopy [1] , [2] . Amplification of such pulses requires broad gain bandwidth materials, which makes fiber amplifiers particularly interesting as they also offer excellent beam quality and efficient heat removal.
