In the same way that we understand what is the role of smart cities, we can expand the concept and think of improving the lives of rural communities by developing what we will call smart villages. The “Smart Village” concept in this research will tackle the multiple geo-spatial challenges towards a sustainable development of rural Albania (Northern region). In this prism, the necessity to implement technological developments becomes present. Main field this research analyses is Geo-spatial technology. Both components, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Geo-spatial data are integrative parts for building smart villages in a basic form which maps the real world into virtual plane. Planning and system supports that are GIS-based facilitate architects and village community to create and envision efficiently alternative ways and determine their action’s impacts on land usage continuity and local population with their employment trend. Spatial and non-spatial layers that have been projected and are available are combined and integrated to have the best decision-making process and facilitate analysis. Albanian Alps, being a territory dominated by rural site, it calls for the need of upgrading to “SMART Village” title of its are through GIS mechanism. Main Hypothesis: Geo-spatial Infrastructure - All the houses in rural areas are to be well connected through rural road ensured by GIS analysis. The connection human-nature, which is truly present in rural communities, implies respect towards these areas and fosters the necessity to contribute in developing them sustainably. State of Art: Northern region of Albanian Alps gets involved in global change-making programs, concretely SMART VILLAGES!
