with high penetration of renewable energy, the grid strength has been decreasing. The static var generator (SVG) has been widely adopted as reactive power compensation device to provide fast reactive power and voltage support for the grid. However, SVG suffers from DC overvoltage during short circuit fault recovery and the possibility of detachment from the power grid. This paper established the detailed state space model of the grid-connecting SVG during short circuit fault recovery and analyzed the mechanism, key factors and suppression strategy of DC overvoltage. Simulation verified the analysis.
